my bathroom

Apparently, my bathroom was a point of discussion with my husband and his coworkers today – and so it has been requested that I post 3D pics of my bathroom in its current state.

I would like to remodel my bathroom, and am open for any suggestions! Doors can be moved, and we only use one sink in the vanity, so I don’t see a need to keep the double sinks (unless it helps with resale value). I also don’t use the tub (mostly because it’s a whirlpool tub with completely moldy nastiness in the jets), but having no tub in the bathroom reduces the bathroom to a 3/4 state, and I suppose it’s never a good idea to downgrade the status of your house.

master suite Master suite floorplan – I included the whole thing, so you can see where you might be able to move doors to (i.e., the walk-in closet door to the bedroom/closet wall).

The bathroom measurements are about 8′ x 11′.

I think the wall between the bathroom and closet should be moved to give the bathroom more room. Then a new shower can be built in that area, and the old area can become a linen closet.

My wife wouldn’t trade our tub for any amount of money, she loves it. Here’s how to clean it (from Jacuzzi’s web site before they started selling their own cleaner):
To remove accumulations of bath residue from the whirlpool system, we recommend that you purge it every 3 to 4 months. To do this, follow this simple procedure. Fill the bath with hot water, (not exceeding 140 degrees F). Add to the hot water 4 tablespoons of low foaming disinfectant. Turn the air induction completely OFF as this will vigorously agitate the water and induce foaming. Run the bath for 5 to 10 minutes. Drain the bath completely and refill with cold water only. Run the whirlpool for 5 to 10 minutes, and then drain the bath completely.

Sorry if I’m dense, but “north” of the bathroom, is that a huge closet? I say leave everything else the way it is, and turn that space into a Finish Sauna.

lol, yup, that’s a “huge” closet. We seem to use it all, but I don’t think we use the space very effectively. Shrinking the closet – while adding more useful shelving and storage to it – might just give us the space we want for a shower that’s bigger than 3’x3′. (I wouldn’t shower in it for the first few months we lived in the house, it made me too claustrophobic – needless to say I have gotten used it.)

Also – the entire master suite has popcorn ceilings. Blech. Anyone ever gotten rid of those?

I second hemisphire’s suggestion of shrinking the closet. You could also close off that closet door in the bathroom and open one up in the bedroom. You might want to try moving the vanity to the “new” space created by the closet, and putting a shower where it used to be. Not sure if it will be a better fit, but might be worth a try. Just don’t shrink the closet too much, beacause I think the walk-in nature of it is a big selling point.

You could also get rid of the double-sinks all together to save space, and replace it with a fancy modern pedestal sink to mitigate any drop in resale value.

Re: the popcorn ceiling. They always get rid of those on the house-flipping shows I watch on TV. I think you have to scrape it off.

Ok, another question for the house gurus:

The bedroom has what I think is called a ‘plant shelf.’ It is basically a 14’x2′ area 8 feet up in the air, at the top of the wall. What do you do with such a thing? Right now, it’s only use is a place for forge to stand and yowl at 4 in the morning. (He discovered this use of the plant shelf shortly after he stood on the nightstand and leaned over to yowl directly in josh’s ear. Moral of the story: don’t wake a large man if you are within arm’s reach. Don’t worry, no animals were injured, though it was briefly considered …)

plant shelves are sometimes called pot shelves-maybe those are the plants. just display areas. plumbing-supply lines are easy to locate where ever you want. drains lines are extremely difficult to move far with the largest (toilet) being the worst. sinks drain into walls and are the easiest to relocate (on the same wall). good luck
